Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Image of late '50's Bullock Building, Simmonds Building ('76) on extreme right. From the late 1800's, Burbank Hospital stood on this hilltop, and over time, added onto in the aughts and teens of the 1900's. In the late 1950's, the current 5'story Bullock Building (3'rd floor without windows on front) was added on, and the new Simmonds Building added next to it, later on, in 1976. The Bullock Building has three Payne traction elevators, which were in very rough shape in the 1990's. All slammed going up and shook violently, with loud door rattling, but a gentler ride down. These elevators have brutal acceleration/deceleration for 250FPM travel, making them feel like hydraulic elevators on steriods. After modernization, the rides are a lot better, but still make noise, and the second elevator is bouncy, and makes loud scratchy noises from 3 to 4 going up, 2 to 1 going down. They still need work, as you will tell in the video of these. The Simmonds Building has a bank of 4 Payne tractions as well, same 250FPM, same brutal speed deltas, but run well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhmkjMHkwNk <--- Bullock Building (Main elevators) www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLng1-1vsqM <--- Simmonds Building
