Built in the late 1800's, the then Lancaster Street School served children in the Southeastern part of the city. In the mid 1980's, the building was condemned for floor systems on the verge of failure. It was boarded up for many years, until the National Plastics Institute purchased the building for $1. Slowly, over the first couple years, the basement and first floor were converted into a meuseum on plastics, and as it grew, the second floor was renovated, and the top floor was a large hall, rented to anyone wishing to hold functions there. Also visible are the handicapped access, and elevator shaft, added onto the facility. The building is maintained while it sits vacant, so it looks dirty, but in very good shape. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQNzseRwj0c <--- Walk-by video.
