Old image of the Carter Building, then Leominster High School In 1908, the new Leominster High School opened, and served the community well, until the early '60's, in which overcrowding was a big issue. A new high school was built nearby, and the old building became a new junior hiigh school: Carter Junior High. In 1984, the school closed, but the Leominster School offices remained in the building another year. At this time, until 1991, the building was used as storage. When Gallagher Junior High closed in 1991, storage was moved to that building, and a few years later, a playgroup leased the building until 1994, when the fire marshal condemned the building for no sprinklers, and a very leaky roof. In 2000, an elederly assisted living complex was to created, renovating the old building into a 100+ bed complex. After the deals fell through, the owners boarded up the doors, and the back, and vandals had their way with it since. Plans were in 2009, to turn it into condos, but that failed, due to opposition by neighbors of the building. It sits rotting away still. Here's an outside shot video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6qRr5Hqk8gNight Shot was used to get a better look at the rotting, collapsing innards. More recent video: All boarded-up (somewhat): www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR3JqUWeS1o
